DEPECHE MODE. It is always so great to hear a band who hits the big time who actually still care about making original music. That is how I felt about depeche Mode when I first fell in love with their tunes. They went from dance synth-pop to full on depression-inducing mopetronic and lost none of their OOOMMPH and none of their danceability. I personally consider Martin Gore a very very under-appreciated musical genius. He not only writes the words, he arranges the music and writes the music and sings on half the songs. That little pixie-looking fop has got it goin' on! I have recently been immersing myself in their album Black Celebration.
