ERIC B. & RAKIM. Rakim is one of my favorite MC's ever. He is one seriously talented wordsmith. Rakim was the first to bring heavy-duty rhyme schemes and internal structure to his rhymes, plus he did it in a laid-back manner that belied his amazing flow. He taught everyone what Rap Music could be. The influence is inestimable. Eric B. scratched it up like a motherfucker too. No overdubs and no bullshit, just a world-class hip hop DJ and a world-class hip hop MC.
